Fills in local electricity and gas prices, the state's extra EV fee, and winter conditions.
2Efficiency, translated
Gas cars are rated in miles per gallon. Electric cars are rated in miles per kWh, or in MPGe, which converts electricity into gallons so the two can be compared directly.

Miles each car goes on 33.7 kWh of energy, the amount in one gallon of gas
| Car | MPG or MPGe | Miles per kWh | kWh per 100 mi |

Gas car, per mile
Electric, per mile
How the conversion works
The EPA counts 33.7 kWh of electricity as equal to the energy in one gallon of gasoline. So MPGe = miles per kWh × 33.7, and kWh per 100 miles = 100 ÷ miles per kWh. A 30 MPG gas car, in the same terms, gets about 0.89 miles per kWh.
The EV's cost per mile blends your home and public charging prices and adds the extra energy winter driving takes. EPA ratings already include energy lost while charging; dashboard readouts leave it out.
